NOW all I get is this searchindexer application running constantly using all my resources and the puter is taking FOREVER to refresh and/or bring up applications. Can I go into task and tell it to quite without screwing up my system even more? Running XP Home on my Dell with 2, 80 gig HD's and one gig memory.

Windows Desktop Search (WDS), How do I use it?
I have also been encountering the searchindexer problem for a couple of days now and have just found this post. I checked Control Panel/Indexing Options and also Administrative Tools/Services and both say that Indexing is off. I switched it on and then off again in the control panel but I am still getting the

Searchindexer.exe definately has something go wrong with it occasionally. I have had my system for several weeks now and two days ago it suddenly went haywire. I was unable to delete anything and the process was running at 100%. I left it on overnight to see if it would finish up but it never did.
